Back in college, I was an R.A. Not a dickish, I’m going to bust your ass kind of R.A., but instead the one that let kids live their college fantasies. I was there for them when they needed me, but otherwise, let them do their thing.
Part of being an R.A., for me, was getting kids together and helping them to socialize. It was an Art School, afterall. I took my childhood love - having been raised in the midwest with a late-October birthday - and combined it with Haunted Houses to create Grim Social. It was a party that I’d gather students up, party it up, then go to a Haunted House. Over 20 years later, I’m still doing that party! Instead of creating paper flyers, as I did in the early 2000’s, I instead make these short-form animated announcements for the yearly tradition. Each year is a different theme, and they’re often very challenging to create around regular work and family time, but I still look forward to my own recurring passion project. Enjoy!
